This position serves as the primary field-level leader for housekeeping staff and assists the General Manager in maintaining consistent standards for guest room cleanliness, presentation, public areas, laundry, and overall housekeeping operations.

Position Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor supports the General Manager in the day-to-day operation of the hotel’s housekeeping department. This position serves as the primary field-level leader for housekeeping staff and assists the General Manager in maintaining consistent standards for guest room cleanliness, presentation, public areas, laundry, and overall housekeeping operations.

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for coordinating daily housekeeping activities, providing direction and support to housekeeping staff, inspecting completed rooms and assigned areas, assisting with training, addressing routine cleaning deficiencies, monitoring supplies and linen, and communicating staffing, maintenance, and performance concerns to the General Manager.

The Housekeeping Supervisor serves as the General Manager’s primary support for housekeeping operations and is expected to take ownership of routine day-to-day housekeeping matters so they are resolved efficiently and consistently. This is a hands-on position, and the Supervisor is expected to assist with room cleaning, laundry, and other housekeeping duties when operational needs require.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the General Manager in the daily operation of the housekeeping department.
  • Carry out housekeeping standards, procedures, schedules, and priorities established by the General Manager.
  • Review daily departures, stayovers, arrivals, occupancy, and special requests to determine housekeeping priorities.
  • Coordinate daily room assignments and communicate expectations to housekeeping staff.
  • Monitor progress throughout the day to ensure rooms are completed and available for arriving guests on time.
  • Adjust assignments and priorities as needed based on changing occupancy, early arrivals, late checkouts, staffing, or other operational needs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for housekeeping employees regarding routine questions and day-to-day issues.
  • Conduct routine inspections of cleaned guest rooms to verify cleanliness, presentation, amenities, supplies, and overall readiness before rooms are released for guests.
  • Inspect hallways, stairwells, entrances, common areas, laundry areas, housekeeping closets, and other assigned spaces.
  • Identify cleaning deficiencies and work directly with housekeeping employees to ensure they are corrected promptly.
  • Provide immediate coaching and instruction when work does not meet established standards.
  • Report recurring quality concerns, attendance issues, performance concerns, or other significant employee matters to the General Manager.
  • Assist the General Manager with training and onboarding new housekeeping employees.
  • Reinforce established room-cleaning procedures, productivity expectations, safety requirements, and hotel standards.
  • Assist with coordinating coverage for employee absences, call-offs, vacations, and unexpected staffing shortages.
  • Step into room cleaning, laundry, public-area cleaning, or other housekeeping assignments when necessary to maintain hotel operations.
  • Coordinate with the front desk regarding room status, priority rooms, early arrivals, late checkouts, guest requests, room moves, and other housekeeping-related matters.
  • Respond to routine housekeeping concerns and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected.
  • Identify and promptly report maintenance issues, damaged furnishings, plumbing concerns, HVAC issues, pest concerns, safety hazards, or other room deficiencies.
  • Follow up on reported maintenance concerns when they affect the ability to return a room to service.
  • Monitor housekeeping linen, guest amenities, cleaning supplies, chemicals, paper products, and equipment.
  • Maintain clean, organized, properly stocked, and secure housekeeping closets, storage areas, carts, and laundry areas.
  • Communicate supply, linen, equipment, or purchasing needs to the General Manager before shortages affect operations.
  • Help control excessive supply usage, waste, linen loss, and unnecessary housekeeping expenses.
  • Ensure proper handling and documentation of lost-and-found items according to hotel procedures.
  • Reinforce proper chemical handling, labeling and storage, use of personal protective equipment, and other established safety procedures.
  • Assist with coordinating deep cleaning, periodic cleaning, and other housekeeping projects.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with guests, employees, vendors, and management.
  • Provide the General Manager with timely updates regarding housekeeping staffing, room readiness, cleaning quality, supplies, maintenance concerns, and unresolved issues.
  • Take the lead on routine housekeeping operations when the General Manager is unavailable, within the authority delegated by management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Reporting Structure

Reports To: General Manager

The Housekeeping Supervisor serves as the General Manager’s primary support for the day-to-day operation of the housekeeping department.

The Supervisor provides daily direction to housekeeping employees and is expected to resolve routine housekeeping matters independently while operating within the staffing plans, budgets, policies, procedures, and expectations established by the General Manager.

Significant employee performance issues, disciplinary matters, major staffing or scheduling changes, purchasing decisions, and other management-level matters should be escalated to the General Manager unless authority has specifically been delegated to the Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Previous hotel housekeeping experience required.
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or team-lead experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel room-cleaning, sanitation, and presentation standards.
  • Ability to thoroughly inspect rooms and consistently identify deficiencies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced hotel environment.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional and respectful work environment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movement. The employee must be capable of performing normal housekeeping functions, including making beds, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, handling linens, operating housekeeping equipment, and moving housekeeping carts.

Schedule

The Housekeeping Supervisor’s schedule is based on hotel occupancy and operational needs. Weekend and holiday availability may be required. Start and end times may vary based on departures, arrivals, staffing levels, and business volume.
